Well, I was going to just title it RE: 5 Reasons Girls BookTube More Than Guys, but this video became much more than that. It started with Jeremy’s video. And my poor reaction to it. I’ll be the first to admit that what I commented wasn’t the nicest thing in the world, but I was hurt. I felt like I was being told, “Because you do these things, you alienate a lot of people who don’t do these things.” As someone who is always working to inspire and help others reach their goals, it hurt. A lot. I know that wasn’t his intention when he made this video, but we all receive messages in different ways.
Then I watched Sam’s video, which was more about him relating the issues back to himself and his personal experiences.
For some reason, both of these guys said they didn’t mean to offend and some other nice things, which I don’t really… I don’t really get why. I get that I’ve got more subscribers than both of them combined and I could Hulk Smash my way through a response video. I’m not about to do that. I understand that we don’t know everything. I understand that on the internet, as a community, we learn together. I’ve seen it in action in other parts of the YouTube community, and I know that we can stand up and do the same.
I attempted to record this about five times. On the fourth time, I was in the midst of editing when it just didn’t feel right. I felt like my responses to the issues weren’t what I was meant to speak about. I thought about why I make videos. I do it to share a passion of mine. I do it to get others passionate about what I am talking about. Whether they read Young Adult lit– not all of it is 50 Shades of Pretty Dresses, I swear– or Crime, Table Top games, Non-fictional, Erotica, Classic fiction, High Fantasy… I want you to read.
So, this video turned into something more… Empowering. I hope. Inspiring. Again, I hope. I really do. I don’t want people to feel alienated. I don’t want you to feel like people don’t listen to you. You are a trailblazer. It doesn’t take talking about the more popular books to gain an audience or your own little community. It’s about showing your own personal passion for the things you love.
I feel like I just spewed out my heart, but I discovered the reasons why I love this community through Jeremy and Sam’s videos. Thank you two dudes!
Also, I spent this morning watching Ze Frank videos like this one, so there’s a little bit of that in this video.

Aw, I may not really be part of the community like you are, but I definitely enjoy what you try to do. I may have horribly failed at my summer reading goals, but you still inspired me to read.
Thanks Jennifer :]
