Every Tuesday, I host New Release Tuesday on This Week in YA to talk about all of the new books being released that week. Here are the releases August 28 – September 1!
August 28 New Book Releases
The Blood Keeper (The Blood Journals #2) by Tessa Gratton
Horror! Fantasy! Romance! This is a story about a girl named Mab who lives in Kansas, isolated from the normal kids her age. Seems like an interesting book because of these ancient secrets she’s protecting and the magic she has in her hands.
Vanquished (Crusade #3) by Nancy Holder & Debbie Viguie
Seems like a great read for fans of The Mortal Instruments and Beautiful Creatures, except there are vampires. It’s said to have “steamy romance with heart-stopping action!”
The Demon Catchers of Milan by Kat Beyer
Mia’s grandfather is killed by a demon, so her cousins decide that the best plan of action is to move her to Milan? I wouldn’t complain!
A Certain October by Angela Johnson (not the comedian)
A coming of age story about a tragic death and its aftermath
The Dark Light by Sara Walsh
I don’t even think I need to tell you what this book is about because the cover says, well, EVERYTHING.
If I Lie by Corrine Jackson
This is Corrine Jackson’s DEBUT NOVEL about Quinn, who is dating the hometown hero, Carey. And while Carey is, y’know, serving in Afganistan, Quinn kisses another guy.
The Stone Girl by Alyssa B. Sheinmel
Contemporary novel about a girl with an eating disorder, striving for perfection, for her first kiss…
The Dragons of Winter (Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica #6) by James A. Owen
Looks like an amazing Fantasy novel!
Embers & Echoes by Karsten Knight
Sequel to Wildfire. About a Ash, a teen volcano god, searching for love and family.
Unwholly (Unwind #2) by Neal Shusterman
THRILLERRRRRR! also, this cover creeps me out.
Every Day by David Levithan
Just gonna read this tagline: Every day a different body. Every day a different life. Every day in love with the same girl.
Under My Hat: Tales from the Cauldrom by Jonathan Strahan
Anthology of magic stories by Neil Gaiman, Holly Black, Garth Nix, and MORE. This is going to be a must-have.
Defiance by CJ Redwine
If you’re looking for a cure for your Hunger Games hangover, this is your cure. It’s a story about a girl who looses her father and has the help of her childhood best friend to train to SLAY A DRAGON. Well, make him her pet basically, in hopes to save the people of her town from the evil evil Commander.
Don’t Turn Around by Michelle Gagnon
Creepiest cover, or creepiest cover? This novel has a plot that reminds me a bit of The Matrix and TRON: Legacy.
Starling by Lesley Livingston
First book in the series about a girl named Mason who must use her fencing skills to fend off creatures that washed up with the last big storm.
Foretold: 14 Tales of Prophecy and Prediction by Richelle Mead, et al. (Anthology)
Richelle Mead, Laini Taylor, Meg Cabot, Carrie Ryan, and basically every other author who writes darker tales.
The Lost Girl by Sangu Mandanna
THIS COVER IS SO AWESOME. The Lost Girl is about Eva, who was made by the Weavers as a copy. She’s not a real girl! After her friend dies, she leaves to go to India in search of her family in hopes that they will accept her.
Erasing Time by CJ Hill
About twin sisters who wake up 400 years in the future to find a VERY different world.
August 30 New Releases
Lucid by Adrienne Stoltz and Ron Bass
About two girls with very different lives, but every night, when they go to sleep, they have body-swapping dreams. As in, one girl is living the other girl’s life in her dreams.
Fifteen Love (Pretty Tough #6) by Nicole Leigh Shepherd
For sports fans, this is the book for you. About twin sisters Bella and Maggie who play doubles on the tennis team, destined for the Olympics, when Maggie decides to drop out.
This is more of a repackaging than a new release, but it seems like a nice, fun read!
Dangerous Boy by Mandy Hubbard
Modern twist on Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde!
September 1 New Releases
Undead by Kirsty McKay
School trip turned Zombie fest! This novel is a mix of horror, humor, and just good ol’ fun.
Falling Too Fast (Border Town) by Malin Alegria
Alexis Garza is dreams of being a star one day, but she’s only in high school so she’ll stick to voice lessons and mariachi band practice. That is, until she falls for a boy from a rival high school’s mariachi band!
A Soldier’s Secret: The Incredible True Story of Sarah Emonds, a Civil War Hero by Marissa Moss
About a girl who pretends to be a man named Frank Thompson during the US Civil War.
The Revolution of Evelyn Serrano by Sonia Manzano
Written by Maria from Sesame Street! It’s about Evelyn and her coming-of-age tale of growing up in her Spanish Harlem neighborhood with her hispanic family. It’s nice to see some diversity on the forefront of YA literature!
The Dark Unwinding by Sharon Cameron
Finally, a steampunk that looks worthy for my reading. Seems to be a mystery as well as a tiny drop of romance.
Amber House by Kelly Moore, Tucker Reed, and Larkin Reed
Ordinary girl meets extraordinarily HUGE house and starts seeing visions of the house’s past. I’ll take that over a steamy romance ANY day.
